Best Use of Goodwill:
(Whilst we intensely admire those who have been able to do well in spite of their disadvantaged backgrounds, we also appreciate those young people who have been able to use the fame, acclaim, success, popularity, achievements of their parents/family to achieve something great either for themselves or for their society. Children of accomplished and/or famous Nigerians who have used their parents’ name wisely and effectively for positive ends – but there must be an active engagement with the Nigerian environment.)

Achievement in past one year: Set up an NGO for youths, where they can voice our opinions and ideas about Nigeria. It is set up for youths all over the world to join. They have hosted a charity ball in Bristol earlier this year to create awareness about Do Sumthing Positive Nigeria (DSPN). Another one is to hold on the 24th of December in Lagos.

Use of Goodwill: Taking advantage of family name and network of friends to get people to contribute for charity as well as getting apathetic young Nigerians to get interested in the conditions in the country

Other info: She choreographs and coaches students for fashion/talent shows: the most recent show being the University of West of England Afro-Caribbean Society for a Cultural night to mark Black history month. Previously worked part-time with Royal Bank of Scotland Insurance and Orange (Telecomms)

Why we chose her: Dumebi started the culture of using goodwill for charity that a lot of other ‘silver spoon’ children in Fusion Nigeria, TELD and Utopia are now replicating.

Being able in a matter of months to generate impressive publicity, especially in a line of business not usually operated on such a major scale, and winning back old customers of the brand
Use of Goodwill: By channeling the publicity that was already there (because of the name Lady Cobbler) towards the business thereby creating awareness and information on the services offered and the location
Challenges: “Finding experienced, reliable & honest staff to share my vision, authentic materials in the local markets & earning the respect of customers/individuals in a male dominated industry”
Other info: Worked with Zenon Oil, Food Concepts, Econet(Celtel) & Bond bank(Skye bank). Intends to go into shoe manufacturing for the masses, wristwatch repairs, dry cleaning & eventually start a training programme for those with interest in this line of work in the near future.
